2020 VW Tiguan

The Volkswagen 4MOTION® all-wheel drive system is comprised of two main components that help properly equipped VW models stay engaged on the road. The first is the Haldex coupling, which helps monitor wheel slip, handling conditions and drive torque, properly distributing power to the proper wheels in the process. Meanwhile, the second component is a Torsen differential, which does the actual work of turning the power on and off to all four wheels.

New Volkswagen models outfitted with 4MOTION® AWD are able to conquer Connecticut weather conditions with ease. The Volkswagen 4MOTION® system can monitor all four wheels simultaneously to determine which ones have the most optimal traction. If a tight turn on a slick road inhibits a wheel, or wheels, from getting the necessary traction, 4MOTION® applies the brake on those wheels and moves the remainder of the power elsewhere. When on-road conditions are normal, however, only two wheels are put in motion. This helps to conserve gas and create for a more efficient ride.
